Dow Chemical Mechanical/Vessels Project Specialist (m/f) in Baden, Germany

The Dow Chemical Company’s Engineering organization offers an exciting and challenging opportunity for aMechanical/Vessels Project Specialist (m/f)to support its Center located in*Rheinmuenster, Germany.

The Rheinmuenster Engineering group is a multi-disciplines and multi-cultural group of approximately 30 people supporting various Dow Businesses mainly located in Germany, France, Switzerland, Belgium and Italy, by executing capital projects in the range of 0.5 to 10 $MM.


This role is intended to be a multi-skills role, with a primary component in Mechanical/Vessels Design, and a second component in Project Engineering function.

The incumbent will therefore

  • be in charge of all technical activities related to the design of Vessels, as well as Static & Rotating Mechanical Equipment, during Projects Front End Loading and Execution phases. In that role you will be part of the project team(s) that execute projects for Dow internal Clients. You will closely interact with all other involved disciplines (piping, electrical, instrumentation, civil, purchasing, etc) during the various project phases under the overall coordination of the Project Engineer.

  • take over the coordination of full small projects (typical sizes 100-500 $M) from Definition to Installation by managing the various involved disciplines and ensuring equipment ordering & installation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver equipment specifications based on process data and Dow standards (for Inquiry, for Order)

  • Technical evaluation of Vendor’s offers and facilitate clarification meetings with Vendors

  • Ensure delivery of Vendor’s drawings and other documentation on time, review and approval of drawings, communication with project team about equipment changes, follow up with Vendor on equipment design, delivery, FAT, etc

  • Participation to equipment inspections

  • On-site receiving of equipment

  • Lead and coordination of remote support (Indian center)

  • Participation to Global Discipline networks

  • Lead and coordination of small projects (100-500 $M)

Skills & Experience

  • Master Degree in Industrial Engineering, specializing in Mechanical or Materials.

  • Min. 4 years of experience in engineering roles

  • Experience in Project Engineering (Coordination of Design, Procurement and Construction, Planning, Labor contracts preparation, etc)

  • English language is mandatory. German and/or French is a plus.

  • Pragmatic, innovative & solutions oriented

  • Very good communication skills, however also willing to apply procedures and follow work processes when necessary.

  • Committed (on time delivery and within budget)

  • Is willing to drive a pragmatic approach to solve problems and carry out technical investigations and assessments, in particular when field visits are needed

  • Knowledge and practice on design codes and standards: ASME VIII, AD-2000, EN-13455, TEMA, PED, ASTM

  • Experience with chemical plants and associated equipment is a plus.

  • Knowledge of 3D model software (Smart Plan 3D) can be a plus.
