The Dow Chemical Company has within the Engineering Solutions department a interesting job opportunity for aPiping Engineering Specialist m/fto be located inRheinmuenster, Germany.
Reporting to the Engineering Solutions Operations Leader, the incumbent will be responsible for delivering Piping activities in Capital Projects (Typical total project sizes being $1-5MM but can also be aggregate type, or much larger) and resource planning.
Project piping activities include the delivery of all piping documents and drawings required during Front End Loading and Execution of the Project, in accordance with the Discipline Design Instructions, including Dow Chemical and / or Project Procedures on Safety and Quality Control, within the man-hour, cost budgets and in accordance with the project milestones.
In addition to involvement in Capital projects, the role includes the management of a group of 5-6 designers and drafters (workload planning, projects assignments), as well as active participation to Global Technical Networks that drive, in particular, the development of Engineering Standards.
The successful candidate will have gained piping engineering experience on a variety of projects including revamps and plant modifications. The incumbent will be a self-starter, able to demonstrate the ability to work using your own initiative or as part of a team. The ability to effectively communicate ideas and requirements in a clear and concise manner is considered essential.
Skills or experience in another project discipline area such as Civil or Mechanical are considered as a plus, as this would match the vision to have a group of multi-disciplines resource adaptable to workload needs or project specifics.
Delivery of project piping documents and drawings (by the candidate and/or by piping designers working under his/her lead in the project
Managing a team of designers (workload planning, job assignments) including checking of deliverables.
A pragmatic approach to solving problems and carrying out technical investigations and assessments.
Client focused with an appreciation of project costs and the ability to control and work to budget.
Experienced in the following activities:
Provide direction and guidance to the Piping Engineering Team. Planning of activities.
Provide technical support to the Project during FEL, detailed engineering, procurement, fabrication, testing, installation, commissioning and start-up stages of the project.
Design and Layout reviews through regular series of meetings and model reviews.
Writing and presentation of technical reports.
Technical recommendation for piping material, valves & special parts.
Ensure that Dow standards and procedures are applied in Projects.
Preparation of pipe specifications
Preparation of Technical Data Sheets / Specifications for pipes, flanges, fittings, valves, special items like special valves, Steam Traps, Strainers, Spring Hangers etc.
Co-ordination of requisitions for enquiry and purchase.
Liaison with Piping MTO and Procurement groups to ensure correct quantities of piping materials, valves and special piping items are purchase and supplied.
Producing and checking calculations (calculation of pipe wall thickness, test pressure, branch reinforcement, blank thickness,…).
Develop and maintain list of lines to be stress analyzed.
Design and selection of supports
Prepare man hour estimates for all Piping Engineering activities
Site surveys and Risk assessments
Take part in Global Networks to leverage in/out piping know-how.
Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering - Piping specialization, or Materials.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in Engineering Companies is a must, with strong knowledge of all project phases and associated deliverables.
General knowledge in other disciplines such a Structural Steel, Civil, Vessels, Mechanical, Electrical & Instrumentation.
Full knowledge of piping codes, standards and practices, like ASME (especially ASME B31.3), EN, ASTM, API, BS, MSS-SP.
Extensive experience with piping specification, piping system components, material selection and piping standards is mandatory.
Experience of stress analysis and in the use of software such as Caesar II is a must.
Experience in the use of 3D and 2D CAD including SP3D, SmartPlant Review, Microstation and Autocad would be an advantage.
Computer literate and familiar with Microsoft office applications (incl. Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
Fluent English, Speaking German and/or French is a plus
