Dow Chemical Robotic Systems Engineer in Deer Park, Texas

The Dow Chemical Company has an exciting opportunity for the right individual to fill the role of a Robotics Systems Engineer in the Houston, TX area. This is an exciting opportunity that can provide significant growth and exposure opportunities across Dow’s Gulf Coast manufacturing base as well as engagement with networked with similar organizations around the globe. The Robotics Systems Engineer will work with various manufacturing facilities to utilize various robotics platforms, but primarily mobile robotic platforms to gather data to ensure safe and reliable operations.

In this role the candidate will be working with a team to design industrial robotic solutions while focusing on state of the art control / dispatching software, leading applications, AI services and emerging IT innovations for the purpose of developing robotics in chemical manufacturing facilities. This role creates significant value by collaborating with the plant personnel and various technical experts to develop creative solutions for gathering data and performing repair & maintain facility tasks in a safe and productive manor. The scope of the role ranges from developing use cases to identifying relevant technologies by interfacing with third party technology companies and internal R&D team members for establishing new businesses.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Research, evaluate and report on emerging robotics technologies to identify opportunities, trends, and best practices that can be leveraged to strengthen our printing products.

  • Seek out innovation R&D ideas with using your deep understanding of current technology trends

  • Troubleshoot robotic systems including disassemble and reassemble robots or peripheral equipment.

  • Test performance of robotic assemblies.

  • Install, program, or repair programmable controllers.

  • Evaluate the efficiency and reliability of industrial robotic systems, reprogramming or calibrating to achieve maximum quantity and quality.

  • Analyze information gathered from various research activities (such as industry experts, professional conferences, and exhibitions)

  • Layout and formulate software technology roadmaps and applications to meet use cases.

  • Participates in defining specifications and develop software prototypes

  • Review and summarize market research materials

  • Track latest academic research on robotics and meet with university professors

  • Make written proposals and obtain buy-in from management and engineers

  • Train technicians on how to install, use, or maintain robots.

  • Assist with developing robotics technician training materials.

  • Assess high level software technologies and workflow software needed in Robotic Process Automation environments

  • Assist R&D team members in technology planning and direction for robotics and other projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing / implementing industrial robotic systems is required.

  • Experience in architecting robotic software and technology roadmap development is required.

  • Knowledge of Robot Operating System (ROS) and /or Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Solutions and /or Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) is required.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 - 5 years of software engineering experience is preferred.

  • Familiarity with robotics industry field is preferred.

  • Knowledge of network technologies including internet, web and cloud API’s is preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor degree in robotics, computer science or equivalent is required.
