Dow Chemical Analyzer Systems Engineer in Freeport, Texas
Dow Chemical’s Analytical Technology Center has an exciting opportunity for an Analyzer Systems Engineer. The successful candidate would join a global team of Analyzer Engineers and Technicians involved in the execution of some of the industry’s largest process analytical projects. The successful candidate would initially be focused on projects located at Dow’s U.S. Gulf Coast sites.
The purpose of this role is to lead the following critical activities at Dow’s Texas Operations (Freeport, TX):
Lead execution of process analytical projects with capital equipment costs ranging from $ .5 MM to $ 30.0 MM. Typical responsibilities include development of:
Specification packages for process analyzers and associated infrastructure
Capital equipment cost estimates
C&SU (commissioning and start-up) schedules and resourcing plans for internal and external C&SU resources
Input to P&ID development to accurately represent process analytical systems
Input to project scheduling activities as relevant to process analytical milestones
Management of process analytical suppliers to include factory acceptance testing activities
Initiation of peer reviews of process analytical engineering documents for major capital projects.
Represent the Process Analytical discipline within the other engineering disciplines involved in the design of the facility, such as Instrumentation, Electrical and Civil, reviewing designs, installation details and communications requirements.
In addition to the project lead role the successful candidate would be expected to be serve as a subject matter expert in one or more analytical technology areas such as sample system design, spectroscopy, wet chemistry, emissions monitoring or gas chromatography.
Some experience in laboratory, project or process analyzer engineering
Demonstrated knowledge of various process analytical techniques in one or more of the following:
o Spectroscopy (IR, UV-vis)
o Separations (liq or gas)
o Wet Chemistry (TOC, titrations, etc)
o Sample Conditioning Systems
o Gas chromatographs; spectrometers; total organic carbon analyzers; zirconia, TDL and paramagnetic oxygen analyzers and other continuous gas analyzers and sample conditioning systems
Ability to apply methodical troubleshooting methods to identify the root cause of a problem or issue
Excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills- able to work with large cross-functional teams
Strong written and verbal communication skills
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Minimum of B.S. degree in sciences or engineering is required
5 or more years’ experience in laboratory, project or process analyzer engineering on major capital projects is preferred
Strong command of on-line spectroscopic technology to include: non-dispersive and dispersive spectroscopic technologies, tunable diode laser and related skills such as chemometric modeling.
Six sigma certification or equivalent
Advanced degree in the physical sciences or engineering (Ph.D. or M.S.)
