Dow Chemical Catalyst Process Research & Development Lab Technician in Freeport, Texas
The Dow Chemical Company is now hiring for the role ofResearch and Development (R&D) Lab Technicianat theLake Jackson, TX HHD Location. The R&D Lab Technician will provide support to Catalyst and Catalyst Process R&D. The incumbent will work directly with PhD chemists, Plant engineers, and Chemical engineers and other technicians to ensure catalyst development projects deliverables and milestones are achieved. This role covers several aspects of catalyst development support. The role requires and high level of independence and initiative, meticulous attention to details, self-motivation, interpersonal effectiveness and reliability.
Follow Operating Discipline principles, procedures and practices to ensure safe and efficient laboratory operation.
Conduct catalyst preparation, analysis, testing under the instructions of Chemists and Senior Technologists in the group.
Master all aspects of safe sampling and analysis of catalyst, catalyst components and raw materials. Master all aspects of safe handling of air and moisture sensitive materials using proper techniques such as vacuum lines, inert atmosphere glove boxes, nitrogen pads.
Learn to operate a Parr reactor and conduct chemistry experiments, in the lab under the supervision of a Chemist.
Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) waste management.
Assist team members with project work and be willing to share leadership responsibilities.
Following training on the use of various equipment, will utilize process knowledge and skills to make improvements in performance and Operating Discipline. Includes creating and improving job procedures through the management of change (MOC) process.
Ability to organize, document and implement consistent test methods.
Passionate about Chemistry and developing new products.
Requires proficiency with standard workstation software, including Word, Excel, and specialized computer-based systems, databases and/or software applications relevant to supported technologies.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Must have strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills.
Detail and result orientated team player

A self-starter who can identify, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks.

Understanding of laboratory operation and basic Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) requirements such as safe operating procedures and management of change. Strong understanding and commitment to their own and the safety of others.
A current valid drivers license is required.
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Experience in setting up and conducting experiments using scientific methodology would be a plus.
Experience in data collection and reporting to capture experimental results.
Bachelor or higher degree in Chemistry or related Science field of study.
- Associate or higher degree in a technical curriculum (e.g., Chemistry, Engineering, Chemical Technology, Polymer/Plastics Technology, etc.) with at least 20 hours of technical coursework relevant to the major course of study. In lieu of this, four (4) or more years of military training/experience in relevant Science technical field would be accepted.
