Support includes implementation and management of existing department health and safety programs, compliance with applicable laws, regulations and standards, achievement of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) goals, and implementing global EH&S management systems and work processes. The incumbent will work closely with plant and EH&S leadership, other members of their department EH&S team, and plant and maintenance personnel to ensure full compliance, enhanced

EH&S awareness, and improved performance.

Key job responsibilities include:

  • Implement detailed, task level EH&S management systems (work processes, standards, and procedures) as appropriate for the department.

  • Ensures that the Health & Safety aspects of Operating Discipline are adequate and applied to achieve performance goals.

  • Develop and implement Health & Safety operating discipline, work processes, and training materials.

  • Lead department Safety Team.

  • Coordinate activities for the Safety Focal Points. Develop training for department Safety Focal Points on Safety Related Topics.

  • Acts as the department resource for related safety and health information on procedures, guidelines and standards.

  • Coaches teams and individuals on EH&S related tasks and activities.

  • Assists in developing and achieving area or plant Health & Safety goals; eliminating injuries, reducing exposures, etc.

  • Facilitate compliance with regulations & standards.

  • Hazard Spotting follow up including safety request or action items.

  • Performs / coordinates the safety and health monitoring, data collection, analyzing and reporting for the department.

  • Lead the development and implementation of Safety Plans for major shutdown/turnaround.

  • Acts as the department compliance tasks owner. Ensures compliance tasks are completed. Downloads department updates, oversees compliance process.

  • As required participates in the Safety and Health related reviews and projects.

  • Department contact for safety and health issues.

  • Lead/participate in RCI’s for EH&S events and missed compliance tasks.

  • Manage and audit safe behaviors including analysis of Behavior Based Performance processes.

  • Schedule is straight 8 hour days Mon –Fri.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of experience in a manufacturing or chemical plant role.

  • This job requires overtime supporting the site as needed. Inclusion in after hour and weekend duty assignments.

  • Experience with intervening with coworkers to stop unsafe behaviors.

  • Willing and able to work closely with operators and maintenance craftsmen to train, coach, and correct as needed on EHS requirements and issues.

  • Be proficient in computers to perform job tasks. Self-starter who can identify, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks.

  • Able to work independently and overcome obstacles to achieve results with limited supervision.

  • Must challenge/question work practices in an effort to continuously improve them.

  • Able to successfully work with a variety of individuals to achieve plant goals and objectives as well as support site processes.

  • Able ability to influence teams to desired result.

  • Must fully support the initiatives of H&S both as a business and a site.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.

  • Current, valid US driver’s license.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States on a permanent basis (U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, or Qualifying Asylee/Refugee).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years experience.

  • 2 years Previous experience in a Health and Safety role..

  • 1 years authorized to issue or receive safe work permits and a strong understanding of safe work permit principles and requirements.

  • Experience with water and/or air permits and waste handling.

  • Developed or lead safety program initiatives.

  • Strong understanding of Isolation of Energy/Red Tag/LOTO principles. Authorized to review the process system isolation and tagging.

Education:

  • Associates degree or higher is preferred.
