The Dow Chemical Company has an exciting opportunity for aSiteMaintenance / Reliability Engineerwithin Dow Water and Process Solutions located in Edina, MN. The Maintenance/ Reliability Engineer is a blended role that combines aspects of both day to day Maintenance and Repair and long term strategic work aimed at improving the overall performance of the assets.
Primary reliability duties will be development of maintenance strategies to support business product supply and asset reliability goals. This role will facilitate development of the business / facility maintenance strategy, and solves reliability and availability losses through application of reliability technology and tools to enable the plant to meet its business plan and strategy and therefore the customer’s need. This result is achieved by focusing on those opportunities that over a long-term period or historically has impacted the plant’s measured asset capability and the opportunities identified as "high-risk" in risk assessments, reliability models, etc.
This role is also responsible for working with Reliability Engineering Technologists to support technical repairs of equipment. This role will provide engineering support to those plant issues that are impacting production over a short period of time. In this role the engineer provides technical expertise which may be equipment based or repair technique based which impacts the availability and maintainability of the facility.
Develops and maintains a model that identifies the unit operations, equipment, process, etc. that identifies the value of opportunities for improvement.
Asset utilization and cost data is analyzed to develop and prioritize a list of reliability opportunities.
Participates in project engineering support activities as appropriate; Process Simplification, Value Engineering, Maintenance Strategy, Reliability Modeling, etc.
Support development and implementation of Equipment Reliability Strategies (ERS) for critical equipment
Uses reliability engineering principles and tools (Weibull, RCI, FMEA) to increase Asset Capability (AC) and Asset Mechanical Reliability (AMR).
Participates in developing the maintenance budget to support the maintenance strategy.
Responsible for the collection of equipment operation/history data and identifying improvement opportunities based on maintenance cost, asset utilization and Reliability Engineering principles
During development of turnaround, work provides input on development of work orders particularly on critical equipment requiring engineering review or input.
As required, provides engineering input to work packages to ensure standards are followed.
Oversees and performs Quality Control on Operational Excellence Model (OEM) or outside shop repairs
Manages Quality issues with suppliers
Process and Performance Measures (PPMs) *
Responsible for the development of new mechanical repair/PPM procedures and review/update existing procedures
Maintains and assists in development of PPM plans/modules and consulted on documentation of PPM changes
Evaluates effectiveness of individual aspects of the PPM program by showing quantitatively the impact of failures and PPM.
Procedure Use *
Supports Maintenance Procedure Use Policy:
Performs technical reviews of procedures
Serves as a technical resource during procedure creation and review.
Supports development of the “Procedure Exemption List”
Creates/develops/changes/updates job procedures and checklists, and initiates Management of Change (MOC’s) procedure.
Technical Repairs *
Provide expertise on failures and repair techniques during root cause investigations
Provide technical expertise to plant personnel on troubleshooting failures, repairs, and evaluating whether equipment is designed to meet its intended or existing service conditions
During repairs closely follow jobs to ensure that repair details such as clearances, tolerances, materials of construction, welding procedures, etc are provided and documented
Provide technical support and involve site Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and supplier/vendors/OEM’s as needed
Ensure repair techniques, repair procedures, and equipment specific training are documented and made available
Provide technical support for specification, identification and purchasing of needed parts.
As appropriate and required, review spare parts list for existing equipment and works with Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) to ensure parts are identified, added and stocked in the MRO system in support of the maintenance strategy
Serves as a technical resource to the planner on work packages
Accountable for critical work in assigned areas of responsibility
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engieering is required
A minimum of 2.7 (out of 4.0) GPA is required if you are a recent graduate (i.e., received the degree required for this position less than 2 years ago).
Strong interpersonal, technical, and leadership skills.
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Experience in Maintenance, Operations, or Engineering - with particular focus on chemical manufacturing;
Experience in reliability modeling, budgeting for expenditures, Six Sigma methodology, and leading projects.
