Dow Chemical Electrical Reliability Engineer in Mt. Meigs, Alabama
The Dow Chemical Company has an opening for an Electrical Reliability Engineer in our Mt. Meigs, Alabama site for Dow Corning Silicones. The Electrical Reliability Engineer provides electrical engineering support to those plant issues that are impacting production over a short period of time. In this role the engineer provides technical expertise which may be equipment based or repair technique based which impacts the availability and maintainability of the facility. The engineer will also facilitate development of the business / facility maintenance strategy, and solves electrical reliability and availability losses through application of reliability technology and tools to enable the plant to meet its business plan and strategy and therefore the customer’s need.
Core Responsibilities: *
Serves as a subject matter expert in electrical equipment failures and repair techniques during root cause investigations
Provides technical expertise to plant personnel on troubleshooting electrical failures, repairs, and evaluating whether equipment is designed to meet its intended or existing service conditions.
Ensures repairs, repair techniques, equipment specific training, are documented and made available.
Provides maintainability input to capital and expense project activities.
Support the Predictive/Preventive Maintenance coordinator as required in reviewing spare parts list for existing equipment.
Develops maintenance operating discipline.
Participates in developing the maintenance budget to support the maintenance strategy.
Provide equipment reliability and performance data to the technical resource networks for input into equipment purchasing requirements, evaluation of equipment performance, vendor performance, and modifications to update Business Specific technical specifications.
Achieve asset performance (producing at rate) and reliability (equipment runs when needed without interruption) business objectives.
Participates in the Facilitation and implementation of the Global Root Cause Analysis process.
Asset utilization and cost data is analyzed to develop and prioritize a list of reliability opportunities.
Participates in Front End Loading activities on capital and expense projects as appropriate; Process Simplification, Value Engineering, Maintenance Strategy, Reliability Modeling, etc.
Uses reliability engineering principles and tools (Weibull, RCI and Failure/Modes/Effects Analysis) to increase asset performance and reliability.
Participates in plant health study and efforts to implement corrective action to maintain or improve plant health.
Applies long term cost of ownership and reliability engineering principles Develop and implement operating discipline that will improve reliability.
Assists the PPM coordinator in setting up the PPM program.
Sponsor and participate as a Process Change Request team member.
Participate in the formal recognition and accountability process that involves department personnel and contractors.
Assist, as required, on site incident investigations of accidents and near misses and in its timely resolutions.
Assist in resolving defects found during the monthly site inspections that meet or exceed OSHA requirements.
Assist in planning long shutdowns of critical process equipment.
Participate in the 5S approach, beyond housekeeping, in specific areas of the Maintenance, Furnace, Lab, and Microsilica departments.
Required Qualifications: *
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
Able to perform task wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as: respirators, protective clothing, face masks, goggles, boots, etc.
Complete multiple tasks and project assignments and see them through completion.
Work independently, with excellent time management and judgment in prioritization skills.
React rapidly to evolving issues and dynamic scheduling situations with utmost discretion.
Collaborate effectively in team, department, or other work group situations.
Perform activities in plant environment in safe manner.
Must be able to work at times in high heat environment.
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred Qualifications: *
3-5 years of industrial / plant experience is preferred
Experience with identifying and mitigating reliability issues
Experience with power distribution
