Dow Chemical 2016 - 2017 Campus Internship: Feasibility study into manufacturing application integration through Enterprise Message Bus architecture in Zeeland, Netherlands

Project Description:

Manufacturing execution systems support the production process of a production facility. These systems address various aspects of production such as manufacturing, quality, inventory etc. Within each category hosts a broad range of applications that require interaction with each other as well as applications in other categories.

Application integration typically uses point to point connections. Although these connections enable specific integration, they tend to be less flexible and inhibit data sharing. An enterprise service bus architecture might bring many benefits in modularizing applications and allow for flexible integration and distribution of data.

In this study, the student will evaluate the enterprise service bus concept relative to manufacturing systems. The evaluation includes a risk / benefit analysis, a technology assessment and its impact on applications and data. The result can be demonstrated by means of a proof of concept.

Project goals

  • Use case scenarios for the current- and future landscape

  • Positioning of technology and identification of its capabilities

  • Recommendation on data and application architectures

  • Proof of concept

You can start between September 1, 2017 till November 1, 2017 for a period of 3-6 months (exact timing to be discussed). You will be remunerated. In addition you can stay in a hotel room free of charge and share a living room and kitchen with max. 17 other (international) students. In the event these rooms are full you will be provided with alternative accommodation.

Main Project skills needed:
