Failure Assessment Diagram is used to demonstrate the structural integrity of a component containing a crack. Stress intensity and reference stress determine the evaluation point. Cracks are frequently observed below a reinforcing pad of nozzles or attachments.
Analytical solutions (like BS 7910 or API 579) of stress intensity and reference stress for this type of geometry are not available. The purpose of the assignment is to develop a numerical solution (Finite Element Analysis using Ansys) for the elastic-plastic J integral and the reference stress.
You can start September 01, 2017 for a period of 3 to 6 months (exact timing to be discussed). You will be remunerated. In addition you can stay in a hotel room free of charge and share a living room and kitchen with max. 17 other (international) students. In the event these rooms are full you will be provided with alternative accommodation.
You are studying for a Masters degree in Mechanical engineering.
You have a good working knowledge of English & Dutch.
