Dow Chemical Occupational Health Nurse in Alberta, Canada
The Dow Chemical Company is seeking an Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) to work at our Prentiss, Alberta manufacturing facility . Under the general direction of the Canadian Health Services Leader, the OHN will have the following primary job duties/responsibilities:
Apply a broad application of knowledge in the field of occupational health, practice in accordance with company Responsible Care standards and all applicable regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Code
Conduct fitness to work evaluations, including baseline and period health assessments, and conduction of medical surveillance testing (blood lab collection, pulmonary function testing, vision testing, audiometry)
Provide advanced first aide/medical aide to employees; collaborate with EH&S for occupational injuries/illness’s
Case Management, including management of short term medical leave and knowledge of the long term disability (LTD) program. Facilitate case management by coordinating health care and early intervention to promote the safe and timely return to work of ill or injured employees
Participate in workplace hazard assessments
Provide health promotion and education programs in accordance with Health Services and EH&S goals and vision
Facilitate health counseling to employees/dependents, including knowledge of and referral to the employee assistance program (EAP)
Maintain confidential, up to date medical records in compliance medical legal requirements
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Registered Nurse with active registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA)
Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (or currently enrolled in an occupational health nursing program)
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications
Current audiometric, spirometry, vision testing and blood sampling certifications
Proficient in use of Microsoft Outlook, Access, Excel and PowerPoint
3 years’ experience as an occupational health nurse
Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without company support or sponsorship.
Current International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification is preferred
Proficient in use of an electronic medical record (EMR)
3-5 years’ experience in emergency nursing strongly preferred
