Dow Chemical Research Associate in Davenport, Iowa
Dow AgroSciences has an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate located in Davenport, Iowa. The Research Associate will serve as an active team member of the Davenport Research Station. The Research Associate conducts breeding nurseries for genetic population development and production of high quality seed. The Research Associate also leads and supports all phases of planning, execution, data collection, and data quality.
Lead efforts of associated nursery experiments by managing experiment creation, field mapping, seed preparation, seed filling, planting, plot maintenance, pollinating, data collection, harvest, and seed processing.
Provides support across multiple research programs. Lead processes as part of the overall station seed handling effort. Responsible for managing and leading a team of individuals in the nursery during pollination season. Effectively communicates with research station staff and contributes in a team environment to successfully carry out initiatives.
Trains and coordinates the work of temporary employees throughout the year. Ensures that tasks are carried out in a safe and efficient manner.
Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Soil Science, Plant Science or other scientific related field
Will be required to do physical lifting and work in varying ergonomic conditions with or without accommodations.
Willingness to work outdoors in a wide range of environmental conditions, additional hours and weekends during seasonal peak task periods, and occasionally travel to provide support at other research centers and winter nursery locations.
Must possess strong computer aptitude and be proficient with standard computer tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
2 to 4 years industry related experience
Knowledge of maize genetics, agronomy, and physiology.
Strong aptitude in operation of field machinery.
Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and meet deadlines, Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must excel in working within a team environment. Ability to prioritize activities for projects that may overlap or fall within a given period of time.
