Dow Chemical Cost Estimating Specialist in Indianapolis, Indiana
The Capital and Engineering organization is a new function within Corteva Agriscience™ Agriculture Division of DowDuPont™ that is chartered to deliver capital solutions, engineering and project execution expertise across the Ag Division, including both Platforms (Crop Protection and Seeds). This organization has many exciting new job opportunities, including this posting for a Cost Estimating Specialist.
The Cost Estimating Specialist provides cost estimates to support capital and expense projects. This role leads the quantification of the cost of defined scope of work to enable project teams and businesses to make sound cost-related decisions to manage the cost of the project within budget and in support of defined objectives. The selected individual will also provide oversight on projects that are executed with external engineering services (EPC). This oversight will include: establishing clear Owner expectations on EPC deliverables and reviewing EPC developed estimates.
KEY REPONSIBILITIES: *
Develop capital and expense estimates in support of project execution.
Develop business-specific conceptual estimates in support of business investment options as requested.
Support Early FEL Specialist with economic evaluation of investment alternatives for various studies.
Document the project cost estimating plan outlining the estimates to be provided, the required inputs from others, as well as, estimate completion milestones.
Document all estimate exclusions and assumptions including the bases for contingency and allowances.
Review and evaluate EPC contractor estimates for completeness, accuracy and alignment to Owner’s expectations.
Support the development and review of the Owner Team estimating inputs for all EPC executed projects.
Provide construction estimates for validation of contractors’ bids or negotiation of contract extras.
Review contractors’ estimates for completeness and reasonable basis that support the project’s scope and defined objectives.
Provide scope change estimates for larger impact scope changes
Assist the project team in resolution of estimating issues involving cost, schedule, & other changes.
Conduct post-project audits to collect actual vs estimated data to ensure accuracy and continuous improvement of estimating assumptions and processes.
Participate in developing the project risk register and risk management process for all projects.
Help to develop the new project controls group’s systems and tools with focus on simplicity, efficiency, and accuracy.
10 years of capital project experience.
4 years of experience in cost estimating on capital projects.
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
- BS in Engineering or related field
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
Industry standard best practice project cost estimating processes and their application.
Use of industry accepted applications for estimating, along with the standard Microsoft applications - Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Broad understanding of EPC disciplines and activities that are necessary to design, construct and start-up chemical processes.
SOFT SKILLS REQUIRED:
Self-motivation and ability to work with minimum of direct supervision.
Great time management skills including the ability to manage a substantial work load.
Interpersonal skills for developing a client base and working in a multi-function team environment.
Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and desire to expand knowledge.
Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple concurrent activities and deliver on commitments under tight time constraints.
Ability to work in a team environment to deliver per project objectives.
English fluency, speaking and writing, in addition to fluent in local language.
Strong ability in listening and communication, including consulting by telephone.
Comfortable working with colleagues with a variety of backgrounds.
Focused on delivering effective, usable results.
Sound interpersonal skills, confidence, and ability to form good working relationships and negotiate effectively with internal and external contacts.
GEOGRAPHIC PREFERENCES, TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Preferred geographic locations include Indianapolis, IN or Midland, MI, or Pittsburg, CA or other locations based upon need.
Must be able to travel to company facilities and Engineering Contractors (EPC).
Depending upon candidate’s location, either Regional or Global travel (10-15%) may be required often on short notice.
