Dow Chemical Supply Planner in Midland, Michigan
Dow Chemical is in the midst of moving several Supply Planner roles as a result of growth and a centering initiative to our HQ in Midland, MI.

This role is responsible for deciding what, when and where to produce for multiple production sites or multiple plants at one site, within a single business or multiple smaller businesses. This includes balancing supply and demand over the tactical horizon to achieve optimum product availability, asset utilization and supply chain efficiencies. Plant locations will be in a single region or a number of plants globally.
Lead, develop, decide, communicate and implement tactical plans across the assigned plants – while maintaining strong linkage into Plants to ensure conformance to schedule and drive labor / capacity plans, and into Areas to secure customer service delivery.
Develop plans to support new item introductions, ensuring product availability for all customers, as well as item discontinuations, mitigating product obsolescence.
Determine and/or execute the most effective regional or global sourcing rules.
Ensure that strategic and tactical business decisions are made with a full and integrated understanding of current and future supply chain capabilities, potential impacts to service, cost, working capital and sustainability, and effective risk management/mitigation.
Identify capability requirements to meet current and future business/customer needs and collaborate with service providers to secure these capabilities.
Where applicable, develop external manufacturing agreements, or execute agreements already in place.
Serve as a local site coordinator/planner for integration of internal demand, utilities or environmental operations at a particular location.
Act as a business focal point on supply from other businesses.
Manage working capital: *
Manage inventory levels to target expectations and customer service availability agreements.
Establish safety stock targets and manage supply plans against those targets.
Ensure that decisions requiring trade-offs maximize value to the business (e.g., reduced inventory versus additional freight cost and/or lost sales, plant downtime versus volume variance, and smaller production batches versus higher conversion cost).
Integrated Business Planning: *
Support preparation for the Supply Review by running and reviewing appropriate reports/KPIs and dashboards, to ensure a productive discussion and IBP process.
Build scenarios of production and supply chain capabilities and limitations.
Maintain strong linkages with Demand Manager and ensure full integration with Finance and Accounting.
Issue resolution: *
Own supply-demand balances for assigned desk, drive resolution of strategic gaps, and develop sourcing strategies.
Manage significant capacity challenges across all country markets in the region and lead communication to business contacts across impacted countries.
Monitor actual performance versus plan and engage cross-functional efforts to resolve non-compliance
Resolve issues or exceptions outside the business rules/boundaries and intervene when needed to address performance gaps.
Make decisions to optimize value to the company based on thorough evaluation of alternatives as well as cross-functional and cross-business trade-offs.
Assess short-term feasibility requests from all countries (where necessary).
Parameter setting & continuous improvement: *
Directly maintain and/or coordinate maintenance of planning parameters to manage plans in an efficient way.
Follow master data governance.
Drive continuous improvement by periodically reviewing and providing recommendations to enhance the distribution network, and by ensuring current manufacturing strategies are appropriate.
Basic Qualifications: *
Bachelor’s degree or 4 years relevant military experience
A minimum of 6 years of experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred Qualifications: *
Bachelor’s degree in one of the following: Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, Mathematics and certain sciences.
APICS CPIM Certification or similar accreditation
6-15 years of planning or scheduling experience
Supply Chain Management, preferably planning and/or scheduling
Interpersonal effectiveness, Initiative, Teamwork, Independent decision making ability
Strong analytical skills and proactive problem solving
Supply Chain Management, preferably planning and/or scheduling
Technical proficiency in the use of multiple computer applications and sound analytical skills are necessary.
