Dow Chemical 2017/2018 Campus Graduate - Information Research (R&D) - Computational Data Scientist in United States

The Dow Chemical Company’s R&D Information Research organization is seeking a full-time Computational Data Scientist. The Information Research organization powers R&D innovations through information management and analysis capabilities that include research specific software development, lab data management, robotics and data analysis capabilities. The organizational hubs are in Midland, MI, Lake Jackson, TX and Collegeville, PA. This position is located in Midland.

Job Description: We are seeking a computer scientist with a background in machine learning, pattern recognition and deep learning domains. A background in computational chemistry or computational biology is a plus. The ideal candidate will be able to work closely with R&D scientists, learn new domains and be able to define and develop learning algorithms and software to enable product design and discovery. We are looking for a candidate who is able to effectively communicate technical concepts and influence diverse stakeholders across the organization. Required Skills

  • Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Computational Chemistry, Computational Biology, Statistics or Mathematics

  • Ability to work with R&D scientists with backgrounds in chemistry, chemical engineering and material science; ability to understand needs across multiple domains and businesses and be able to define and build relevant solutions

  • Proven ability to develop predictive, learning algorithms for scientific applications

  • Ability to understand database structures, data quality and validation techniques and proven ability to query data from multiple systems

  • Ability to independently or collaboratively develop custom software solutions/processes that contribute to and help foster the Dow’s growing data integration environment

  • Strong computational and data visualization skills to bring together disparate data types in compelling visualization packages that provide end users with the ability to make data-based decisions

  • Programming experience in C , C# or Java, and scripting languages like Python, Bash, and R, and ability to learn new languages and interface with existing programs and API’s

Additional Desired Skills

  • Experience with working with large, diverse data sets

  • Strong expertise in Bayesian methods, matrix analysis and advanced statistical analysis

A minimum of a 2.700 cumulative GPA is required.

A minimum requirement for a US-based position is the ability to work legally in the United States on a permanent basis
